Katharine Houreld is currently the Afghanistan and Pakistan correspondent for Reuters. She began her journalism career as a freelancer in West Africa, covering the aftermath of the Liberian civil war. Since then, she’s lived in Nigeria and Kenya, and reported on elections, uprisings, wars, piracy and governance in Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and many other countries. Katharine enjoys exploring the economics and politics that lie behind the conflicts, and telling the stories of individual’s reformists struggling to improve dysfunctional governments.
