Media Foundation 360 held a seminar on” religious and social festivities” in Multan on 24th October 2019. Journalists from Print and electronic media, Lawyers, Human Rights Activists, members of civil societies attended the seminar.
MPA Wasif Raan and Multan Bar Council’s leader Sajid Raza were also present at the event where they spoke about the importance of inclusion of minorities and role of media in promoting inter faith harmony. Director News Rohi TV, Bureau Chief Geo TV Multan Shahadat Hussain were also present at the event.
Representative of Roshni welfare organization shared his experience while working on Safety Charity in the district. He highlighted the importance of Safe Charity and said that charity is our religious obligation but it must not be given into the hands of terrorist organizations.
Member Punjab Assembly Mr. Wasif Raanfrom also participated in the event and said, “I criticize the recruitments of minority as sanitary workers as this discrimination is hurtful for minorities. They are equal citizens of Pakistan”. According to Mr Wasif, Ministry of Human Rights and Minority Affairs are active in the province, so that the problems of minorities can be solved on priority. He also said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is going to open Kartarpur Corridor to promote religious tourism and religious acceptance on larger scale.
Mr Wasif also said that religious harmony is being promoted at local level in Multan. He said that Multan was considered city of saints and acceptance of dissent and religious harmony was always present. However, we need to revive and follow the message of our saints, he concluded.
During the seminar, journalists ensured their support to strengthen minorities and ensure extensive coverage of religious and social festivities in Multan region. Participants from media reiterated their support for the continuation of coverage of religious and social festivities and vowed to produce more stories on the issues to promote tolerance, acceptance, and social cohesion for inclusive society.
